If you've been doing any research on Internet Marketing or web content writing then you'll have undoubtedly come across the term CTA, or Call To Action.
 
What Is A CTA?
 
A CTA is the vehicle that drives your visitors towords conversion. If your site is an MFA (Made For Adsense) site then the action you want visitors to take is to click on the Adsense links. If you run an ecommerce website then your CTA should, in most cases, attract visitors to purchase your products. If you're attempting to increase your newsletter subscriber base then your CTA will be calling visitors to subscribe to your newsletter.

Click Here is probably the most widely used example of a CTA. It is also, in the vast majority of cases, the worst possible example. At least, on its own and with no supporting context, it is useless as a CTA. Your visitors don't really have the first idea what you want them to do apart from click that link.

Read More or Purchase Here would be a more effective CTA for many sites but both are still lacking in the information they provide. A CTA needs to be more than a link with a couple of words of anchor text.
